Getting bullied is the most dreaded situation a student could ever experience in their whole school life, and this will also affect their adulthood. That’s why a fledgling Sunbury gym is running self-defence classes aimed at stopping schoolyard bullies in their tracks.

Combat Fitness manager David Cannons, once the victim of persistent bullying at school, said the gym planned to introduce anti-bullying classes for school-aged customers.

Mr. Cannon said the gym taught boxing and Muay Thai, and was already proving a magnet for former members of the now-closed Sunbury PCYC gym.

He said classes included a “cave man training class” run by a “drill sergeant”, attracting student from 14-year-old girls to 55-year-old men.

He realised the training styles he learned in Thailand was needed to be introduced in Australia, and there are no belts or egos in the gym. Also, they have a lot of one-on-one contact with instructors in all their classes.
